·       Staff are extremely involved with extra-curricular activities from a number of different areas including athletic, class sponsorship,  

US History WASC Critical Areas for Follow-up:

1. Rigor and higher order thinking skills:  Implementing History Alive strategies, supplemental resources, sharing ideas on projects and lessons to ensure the most success for our students that align with the standards

2. Proficiency ELA and math: Using interdisciplinary lessons, skill-builders that have students analyze data and its relevance.

3. Communication: Many of our staff are members of governing boards on campus and, therefore, communicate ideas from department to board and vice versa. Through professional development, we are allowed to communicate these ideas with the whole group.

4. Analyze student data: Using the CST scores and My Data from previous years to enhance our lessons and look for areas of improvement.

5. Intervention: Social studies coach pulled out students that were critical based on the History Diagnostic and worked with them on CST review. After-school CST review for US History during second semester.

6. ESLRs: Socially Responsible Community Member:  Encourage students to participate in school activities, lessons that deal with tolerance towards other cultures in the community.

Effective Communicators: Through presentations, speeches, act-it-outs students are able to improve their communication skills both in writing and speaking.

Critical Thinker: Using a variety of lessons which include debates, multiple perspectives, comparing and contrasting, cause and effect relationships, prediction of outcomes and evidence based research. 

Econ and Government WASC Critical Areas for Follow-up

 

1.  Teachers use case studies and analytical tools in order to promote higher order thinking skills.  USC Calis students are utilized assist/facilitate interactive lessons.

Research based projects, and essays.

 

2. Teacher collaboration involves discussing SDAIE strategies, realia, and, graphic organizers/thinking maps in order to differentiate and scaffold lessons for EL students’

Culminating tasks require written work such as essays.

 

Economics teachers use budget project activates which require use of math

 

3. We have strong teacher leaders who are members of committees and collaborate with their departments.  Constant use of email and the Banning website, Social studies teachers created a website which consists of pacing plans based on the CST California state standards for each subject/content area.

 

4 .We have had professional development on mydata, we use the data to analyze the progress, reclassification, CST score, grade point average, at risk students.

Individual teachers use data to determine mixed ability grouping.

 

5. Students can be referred to COST team, department has an intervention specialist, we work closely with the Bilingual coordinator.

7.  Teachers and administrators at doors of classroom.  Supervision during nutrition and lunch.  We have campus security,   Safe and civil committee. And school police, deans.  Teachers allow students to stay in their rooms during nutrition and lunch.
