Ways of Raising Student Grades (from Marking Memo)

Contact Family

Don’t compare students, judge each on it’s own merit (non-competitive)

Syllabus should be readable to the students (translate to Spanish) Mr. Castillo will help out with this (with notice he will make calls not translate syllabus.)

Use Google docs translator.

Assignment with a lot of F’s and D’s you should re-teach the assignment.

Progress reports are enough to say you contacted the parents (page 10 Section IX B1)

Gifted and ELL both expected to demonstrate mastery of standards. They should receive addition assistance if failing. (Gifted – if not exemplary need to intervene)

Quantity of work should be reflected as part of the grade.

Give an incomplete in some cases, when appropriate instead of a Fail.

Attendance not counted as part of the grade

Give make-up work for non-excused absences since you can (it will lift grades)

Keep athletes in class if not performing even though you can’t – work with the coach. Must give make up work to athletes who missed class because of a school activity.

Make adaptations for students with an IEP and other students that need modification.
