NGO RESEARCH PROJECT and PRESENTATION

 

Your task is to…

  1. Choose a NGO you are interested in to research

  1. Research the organization using the internet, the library, and any other sources you can find.  Be sure to contact the organization directly (phone or email) and ask them to send you any information they have available.  You may also conduct a phone interview if needed.

  1. Create/design your own brochure to educate high school students about the organization

(6 panels).  Must be colorful, creative, and follow the format.  (30 pts.)

    1. Front panel 1- NGO name, slogan, pics,
    2. Panel 2- Goal and purpose of the NGO
    3. Panel 3- Intro to the NGO- background info
    4. Panel 4- Accomplishments and Current Projects (bills in Congress, or state legislatures)
    5. Panel 5- How can I help?  Explain how someone could get involved with the NGO and what they can do to help
    6. Back panel 6-  Contact Info.  NGO address, phone, fax, email, website, name of leader or president, etc.
    7. Your name goes on the back panel, in a small square at the bottom of the panel (name, date, period)

 

  1. Write a 500 word essay about the organization, explaining what they do and what they represent.  Include information on how people can help or participate in the organization, along with any current legislation that may be in state, local, or federal government.  (25 pts.)
    1. must be typed, double spaced

 

  1. Create a timeline showing the history and accomplishments of the organization  (15 pts.)
    1. at least 10 events must be included on the timeline 

 

  1. Research current legislation, and find a bill the organization may be sponsoring or supporting.  Can be local, state, or federal. 
    1. Prepare a page about the bill (can be taken from the web)  (10 pts.)
    2. Write a letter to the appropriate government official and let them know you are interested in seeing this bill passed.             (25 pts.)

                                               i.     This must be set up as a professional letter

                                             ii.     Typed

                                            iii.     Include info on the NGO- what cause you are interested in and representing

                                            iv.     Explain the bill, and how you learned of it

                                              v.     Propose a solution to the problem

                                            vi.     One copy must be mailed to the appropriate government official, and one copy included with your project folder.

                                           vii.     This is your SERVICE LEARNING piece of the project!  MUST be done for GRADUATION!

 

  1. Include any other information you feel may be important to accurately represent the organization

 

  1. Compile your research into a nice folder, decorated with images that represent the organization.
    1. Folder must be nice, colorful, creative, and be able to hold all the information.  Please use color, pictures, etc.   (10 pts.)

 

  1. Present your final product to the class.   (10 pts.)

 

 

*EXTRA CREDIT OPTION: 

  Design a t-shirt for your organization!  Wear the shirt on the day of your presentation.  (up to 25 points)
