Mr. Gold stepped down as department chair, Mr. Mendoza took over.
Meeting Objective : Answer 4 questions about RTI
These
are the questions (with the answers)
* What does Tier I Instruction look like in our department?
We examined the RTI Tier I chart that was created in June. We support most of it although we might
combine some items.
* What will each department agree to do with Tier I Instruction?
We will implement as much of the Tier I chart as we can work out throughout the school year.
Process : Attack each
item. Create the structure needed to support each item in department meetings or assign items to individuals or to sub-groups.
For the first year we will be open to all ideas (2010-2011). For an idea to remain as part of our department the individual
or group will need to prove it's worth by bringing in the results (work samples, videos etc.). Anything that shows positive
results remains, no results or negative results will require the removal of the item from our Tier I instruction.
* Choose
your top three priorities from the Tier I Instruction and what does that look like within our department?
1. Grade level teaming with
collaboration and sharing among teachers (combined two into one)
2. Establish essential questions
based on the standards.
3. Clear Classroom Expectations (Work in progress)
4.
Use of Multiple Instruction Strategies
* How often will you implement and how will you monitor?
We will implement almost constantly. All results will be posted on the social studies website so they can
be used and evaluated constantly. At Tuesday meetings we will bring in evidence as to which items (ideas, lessons, strategies
etc.) work and which do not. We will do learning walks (and create guidelines for learning walks) so we can get and give feedback
on what we have implemented.
With essential standards questions we will compile them and post them
on the site and use them on a regular basis. Via emails and meetings we will analyze the effectiveness of the questions and
whether we need more or need to change the questions.
