Life at the Turn of the Century: Magazine

You are going to create a magazine cover of showing the changes in life at the
beginning of the 20th Century (1900s). Pages that you can use in the book 274-300
Your magazine cover should have a title that goes with the time period and the
pictures should have captions of what is going on in the pictures
Your magazine
cover should include the following categories:
- Science
and Urban Life: under this category you should include things like technology, inventions, and urban
life such as skyscrapers, transportation and city planning
- Education:
under this category you should include the changes in schools, the levels of education, and social issues dealing
with education such as equality for African Americans
- Social/Cultural
Issues: should include issues with voting, Jim Crow laws, Plessy v Ferguson, discrimination against
African Americans, Mexicans, and Chinese
- Mass Culture:
should include areas of leisure such as amusement parks, sports, and media.
The way you set up the layout is up to you. Your cover can be all black and white or in color, it is
your choice. Your magazine cover should have a mixture of pictures that are printed and drawn.
Your magazine cover should show all the aspects that are mentioned above. Your magazine cover
should be a good representation of what life was life at the turn of the century.
Written portion:
In an essay of 500 words or more, discuss
life at the turn of the century.
What important changes came about,
how did these changes affect people’s lives then and how it relates to today? Your written portion
should be typed and stapled to your magazine cover.
The more creative
you are the more points you will get. You have to do both portions to get full credit. I will not accept the assignment that
is missing either the cover or the written portion.
