“LADY PILOTS TENNIS
TEAM COMPLETES BACK-TO-BACK SEASON SERIES SWEEPS WITH WIN OVER NARBONNE!”
Re-Cap of 10/16/06 Match vs. Narbonne
After sweeping the season series versus Washington
last week, The Lady Pilots backed that up by wrapping up the season series versus Narbonne as well. After the historic 4-3 win the first time around, the Pilots continued their season-long journey of improvement,
by taking 5 of the 7 matches this time, while piling up 50 games to the Gauchos’ 28.
All three doubles tandems of Cinthya Monroy
& Veronica Trujillo (#1 Doubles), Jackie Gonzalez & Norma Santamaria (#2 Doubles), as well as Yvette Aguilar &
Melissa Hernandez (#3 Doubles) swept their matches by a combined 24 games to 10. The
most dominant win coming off of an 8-0 shutout by Gonzalez & Santamaria, while Monroy & Trujillo fought back from
another late-game deficit to take their match at 8-6.
#1 singles player, Margaret Young, repeated
her performance and improved her winning score, while Jackie Humara (#4 singles) avenged her defeat from the first time around.
Also in singles, Nancy Melgoza (#2) fought
hard, building a 4-0 lead before being forced to retire following an injury (ankle).
However, the most surprising and impressive play of the day was that of Adriana Garcia (#3) who, playing against a
much more experienced/polished player, fought hard from a 3-6 deficit before finally succumbing to defeat at 8-6. Garcia played some of the best tennis of her 3 year career and her performance was inspiring and gives
the Pilots hope for avenging their 4-3 loss to San Pedro in what is sure to be an intense rematch with playoff implications
in the season finale.
Awesome job Pilots! Keep up the Good Work!
