Here are the instructions (with tips) for the Bill in Congress Power Point Report.

1. Pick a bill. On a piece of paper write the name of the bill (H.R. 742 or S 1121). Also write the subject (giving more money for music programs in schools)
   Only one per bill

Where do I find the bills? congress.gov click legislation
- A list will appear of some of the top bills in consideration. Your best bet is to use the search option. Try typing in subjects that interest you. For example I typed in music and 3 bills came up having to do with music. Work fast.

2. Create a Power Point Presentation. It should result in a 2 - 4 minute presentation. Probably about 10 slides.

What makes a good slide : Pictures, good information as short as possible, you should be telling us stuff and the slide is your guide to help you organize what you talk about and make it more visual that way the audience learns both from what you have said and from what they have seen.
Lots of words makes people groan........pictures and interesting tricks make people pay attention.

10 Slides:
a. Must tell us what the bill is about (putting money into music programs at schools)
b. Who introduced the bill (the sponsor) : Senator Hillary Clinton
c. Why is the bill important: It will help revitalize school music programs. It was proved that kids do better in school when they take music lessons.
d. What will be the effect of the bill (schools will have more choices and better music programs, kids grades will improve)
e. What is the cost of the bill? (The congress will spend 400 million on the program.)
f. Other information (talk about music program at Banning, Talk about what happens to schools without music programs etc.)
You may use more than one slide for each. You don't have to use many words. You can have a slide with no words if it makes the presentation better.

You can use notecards but the presentation will be better if you know your topic and can just talk about it naturally, like you know what you are talking about.

Use some of the lab time to research and really understand it. If I have to explain it all to you, you picked the wrong bill - try again.

3. Make sure all pictures used are from the public domain or that you own them.

If you take your own pictures and put them in the effect is better.

You can work on this at home but not instead of the lab. Use the time in the lab for this project.
