Culminating Tasks
(Projects)
#1 Newspaper article that displays your knowledge of federalism in the writing and
how the process of amending the Constitution reflects federalism at work.(2008). More details to be given
in class. (project due October 5)
#2 Small poster which discusses a
major 1st,4th,5th,6th,or 8th amendment issue and analysis/evaluation
of the issue. More details in class (project due October 31)
#3 A letter to a California or United States member
of the government. The letter will deal with ways of increasing voter turnout or other issues to be announced at the time
the project is introduced to the class. It will be written using a business letter format. Addresses will be given in class
and others can be found online. Use www.house.gov to find your representative in Washington D.C. All letters must be turned in contained within an addressed and stamped envelope
but not sealed so I can read the letter before it is sent. Extra credit will be given to any student that receives
a response and brings it in before Jan 29. (project due whenever but you will not get response if late-grade goes in November
10)
SERVICE LEARNING PROJECT TO BE ANNOUNCED
#4 Power Point Presentation. Each student, using Congress.org, will choose a bill currently active
in Congress. Using Power Point, each student will present the bill to the class. You will explain the possible impact of the
bill, who supports the bill, etc. Using Power Point will be explained and you will be expected to speak to the class while
presenting. Appx December 9

#5 As
the culmination of the election simulation, each group will present a campaign speech outlining what the group plans for the
United States for the next 4 years. You will identify problems. Offer solutions, and describe the way in which you will get
congress to support your plans. There will be other aspects (Mock election, commercials, debates etc.)to
this projects announced during the week of the project.
