Essay Assignments

#1  Essay Format 1. Read carefully pages 41 of your text book. Compare courtship today to that of Colonial times. Which is best?  Due September 20

 

#2  Essay Format 1. Take a position and defend. Life on the farm is superior, better, more satisfying than life in the city or vice-versa. Be sure not only to explain your position but the reasons one might feel differently from you. Due October 31

 

# 3 Essay Format 2 : What should U.S. policy be towards immigration? Should the borders be open or closed, or what limits should be placed? Back up your point of view.  Due November 18

 

#4 Essay Format 2. Give your opinion. How much should the United States become involved in the affairs of others? When should we involve ourselves with other nations and should we not. Give examples (World War I, Iraq) to support your position. Due January 10 We will write this on two separate days.

 

Culminating Tasks

#1  Create a political pamphlet that focuses on one controversial political act or issue from the 1760’s through the 1780’s. The pamphlet will reflect BOTH sides of the issue or act. Arguments will be clear and persuasive. Pamphlet will be appealing. (project due September 22)

 

 

#2  Civil War Diary. Each student will be assigned a different role from the civil war and write a dairy detailing the major events of the war from the point of view of the person you have been assigned to. More details to be announced in class. Style is vital. (project due October 19 )

 

 

#3 + #4  CST Flash Cards

Each student will be assigned questions based on the CST test coming up in May of 2012. Each student will create giant (8.5 x 11) flash cards for each question they are assigned. The flash card should be clear and easy to read from a distance (across the classroom). The question and answer should both be on the front of the card . Although neatness is most important, the card should be attractive. Example will be given in class. Best cards will have all four choices displayed and the correct answer is able to be revelaed.
