Episode Review

Essay #3

In the video you watched several areas we have covered in class were explored and a few that we will cover in the future and a few we may not get to. In your essay you will write several paragraphs :

Paragraph 1 : You will describe the episode and what occurred. End the paragraph with a statement concerning your opinion of the outcome of the case.

Paragraph 2 : Describe how self-defense played a role in the video. Remember a person can defend themselves in a manner equal to the threat. If someone makes a verbal threat, one can defend themselves verbally not physically, etc. Was she defending herself in a manner equal to the threat or did she take it too far. Was she right or wrong? Was she a hero or a criminal, or somewhere in-between?

Paragraph 3 : She was eventually convicted (by reaching a deal) of illegal possession of a gun. Discuss the right to carry a gun for self defense. Does the 2nd Amendment protect this right? Should people be able to carry a gun for self defense?

Paragraph 4 : After hearing the evidence the jury was never able to find out that the victim was a former rapist. If they had found out this information should it change the way they look at the case. How do you think the Jury would have decided on the case based on the evidence had they known? If you had been on the jury how would you have decided?

Paragraph 5 : Wrap up the essay by recapping the highlights and giving your opinion of the episode. Let us know what you liked/disliked about it? Would you watch Law & Order again based on this episode?
