Congratulations to the boys tennis team for their tremendous wins and vast improvements over 2015’s results at the SCTA’s Annual Pete Brown 1^st Serve Tournament at West Torrance High School.  Over the course of 3 weekends, at 2 different locations, 48 top CIF schools gathered to compete in this series of 1-day tournaments, the Pilots finished 3^rd in their group, despite missing 4 of the team’s 10 regular starters, and losing another to injury during the 1^st contest of the day.

In 2015 the Pilots had a rough outing only winning a total of 2 individual matches, and only 37 games overall as the team went 0-3 on the day, including a 6-0 loss vs. the host school, West Torrance, in which the Pilots only managed to win a total of 3 games.  This time around, however, things were much different, as the Pilots took 2 matches from the Warriors, winning 30 games overall, in addition to the team’s 4-2 overall win over Alhambra.  Overall, the Pilots won 6 individual matches and tallied a grand total of 74 games for the day.

In singles, Jorge Zavala went 2-1 on the day, as did #2 Doubles, Fernando Corona & Esteban Zavala.  Despite the festive mood of the much better results & the delicious grub afterwards, the Pilots’ moods were tempered by the loss of the team’s #2 player, Brayan Camacho.  Camacho went out early in the tournament, after only the 4^th game of the first match of the day, after suffering what appeared to be a serious foot injury that will likely sideline him for an extended amount of time.  Nevertheless, the Pilots go back to work on Monday, with the team’s last non-league match vs. Manual Arts.
