Congratulations to the Girls Tennis Team for a great effort in Wednesday's playoff match
vs. Taft. In singles, Darla Romo managed to take 2 games in a hotly-contested match, while in doubles, all 3 matches
included intense tie-breaks. As the last match on court, Milka Jimenez & Brenda Lomeli captured their 1st set in
a tie-break before falling in a close 2nd set, and finally losing in a super tie-break game for the 3rd set. Elaine
Gomez & Stepahanie Salazar played great tennis in the first set, and even ramped up their play in the second set to force
a tie-break which ended up being the longest tie-break of the season, requiring 22 points to settle it. Finally, Alondra
Gudino & Leslie Leon broke through to win a tie-break at last, after a season full of many close tie-break losses, to
capture the first set, before they inexplicably seemed to fall apart a little in the 2nd set. Gudino & Leon, however,
admirable gathered themselves up and regrouped for a focused 3rd set of play which they won easily at 6-3 for the only win
for the Pilots on the day. Interestingly enough, while the Pilots were making what amounts to perhaps the very first
Division 1 appearance in school history, they faced off vs. a Taft squad which also eliminated the Pilots in 2014 & 2012.
In JV/Exhibition action, Emily Garcia & Meya Vargas added some additional satisfaction to the day, as they won a rare
JV/Exhibition match during a team playoff. Great job Pilots & Good Luck to those who now await the decision of the CIF
Playoff Seeding committee to find out who made it into the CIF LA City Section Doubles Championships, following the conclusion
of team playoffs.
