Congratulations to the Girls Tennis Team for a great victory over league rival, San Pedro,
on Monday. After completion of the first 4 matches on court, the Pilots found themselves behind 1-3, needing to win the 3
remaining matches. In doubles, the Pilots had split the first two matches played, as Milka Jimenez & Brenda Lomeli
seemed to cruise, while Vanessa Jaramillo & Evelyn Lagunas came up just short in the 2nd one in a very close tie-break.
The third match would go to the Pilots, however, as Juana Gomez & Lizeth Manzano created separation late in the match
after being even through the first 12 games. In singles, the Pilots were stunned taking two seemingly devastating losses
as Elaine Gomez then fought back from a deficit late in the match to pull out the win. The dramatics, however, came
during the #2 singles contest, which Alondra Gudino led 7-4, before a variety of controversial calls contributed to the match
going into yet another tie-break for the day. With intense pressure on both players, the Pilots hopes seemed doomed as Gudino's
opponent jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the tie-break, just one point away from victory. Gudino, however, would mount one
of the most amazing comebacks in Pilots' history, as she fought off 5 straight match points, en route to winning 7 points
in a row to pull out the dramatic win! In JV/Exhibition play, the Pilots took 2 of the 5 matches played in dominant fashion
with Cuevas & Garcia, as well as Baca & Gonzalez winning easily. Great Job Pilots & Good Luck vs. Manual
Arts on Wednesday!
