Girls Tennis Match – Banning vs. Westchester
Congratulations to the Lady Pilots Tennis Team for making it all the way to the Quarterfinals of the
team playoffs, and for their incredible effort on Friday vs. Westchester. Despite the fact that the Pilots
came up short, in a very close 3-4 loss, there were several standout performances.
In Doubles, Lizbeth Medina & Jamie Vasquez won in straight sets, 6-2,
6-1 to further their hopes of making it to the C.I.F. L.A. City Section Doubles Championships in Encino, CA. Meanwhile,
Liesel Montañez & Renae Reyes won in dramatic fashion. After winning the 1st set
easily at 6-1, Montañez & Reyes stumbled in the 2nd as their opponents forced a decideing 3rd
set, as Montañez injured her ankle towards the end of the set. Determined to continue playing, she
returned to action after a brief medical timeout, as she & Reyes left no doubt in the 3rd set winning 6-2 for
the Pilots.
In Singles, Jocelyn
Cuevas played an awesome match, as she fought back from a 1-set deficit to shut out her opponent 6-0 in the 2nd
set, winning easily 6-1 in the 3rd.
In JV/Exhibition
Action, Andrea Cardenas & Natalie Martinez had a unique opportunity to play during a playoff contest & played several
great points versus Westchester's#2 Varisty doubles squad.
Great Job Pilots on an awesome season & Good Luck to those whose season continues in the doubles tournament beginning
on November 8th!
