Re-Cap of 10/19/11 Girls Tennis Match – Banning vs. Narbonne

Congratulations to the Lady Pilots Tennis Team for an incredible effort in yesterday’s historic match, as Banning faced Narbonne for perhaps the first night tennis match in the school’s history during an exciting Senior Night.

In Singles, the Pilots were led by 4^th-year Senior, Luisa Martin, who seemed to be locked in a tight battle, through the first 8 games.  However, Martin would take the next 4 games in a row to close out her opponent for an 8-4 win.  In the longest match of the night, another 4^th-year Senior, Becky Rodriguez, would come close to doing the same in an extremely even matchup which went the full distance, as Rodriguez finally fell at 6-8 in the tie-break.  4^th-year Seniors Melissa Garibay & Angel Noriega both also played valiantly as Garibay took 3 games from the Marine League’s top player, while Noriega took 5 games in another closely contested match.

In doubles, 4^th-year Seniors, Lizbeth Medina & Jamie Vasquez, avenged their defeat from earlier in the season, in which they let a 7-4 lead slip away.  This time, however, spurred on by a full house & the Wednesday Night Lights, Medina & Vasquez would build the same 7-4 lead & close it out easily for the 8-4 victory.  Meanwhile, Jocelyn Cuevas & Sabrina Serrano took 2 games, as Liesel Montañez & Renae Reyes overcame an early deficit to take the lead, yet fell in the end.

The team also sent off 4^th-year Seniors Brenda Angeles & Jessica Ramos, as well as 2^nd-year Seniors Jackie Cabrera & Sandra Hernandez who all making their last appearance at home.

Congratulations Pilots for a great Senior Night & Good Luck to the team as they travel to San Pedro today for the team’s regular season finale on a quest to make the team playoffs for the 6^th consecutive season.
