Re-Cap of 9/16/10
Girls Tennis Match – Banning vs. Franklin
Congratulations to the Lady Pilots Tennis Team for their 2nd victory in two days, after
handily defeating Franklin in a re-match of a 2009 playoff victory for the Pilots. While the Panthers certainly
had revenge on their minds, it was Banning that would come out on top once again.
In doubles, all three squads swept Franklin, as Rebeca Rodriguez & Melissa
Garibay, as well as Lizbeth Medina & Jamie Vasquez shutout their opponents 8-0, while Patty Ledesma & Luisa Martin
fell just short of the same, yet still won easily 8-1.
In Singles, Helly Duran & Carmi Lares gave great efforts, while Jenny Castellon’s quick
8-1 win gave the Pilots great confidence that the victory would be brought home. The story of the day,
however, was Angel Noriega, who made her debut at the #1 singles position. Battling with her opponent and
her own nerves in a very tough struggle, Noriega pulled away towards the end of the match to produce an amazing 8-5 victory
in perhaps the best performance of her career.
In JV/Exhibition action, partners Areli Chun & Renae Reyes, as well as Sandra Hernandez & Jocelyn Cuevas led
their opponents before the action was called, yet were able to garner some valuable experience.
Great Job once again, & good luck as the team opens league-play
next week versus Gardena at home!
